Start at the higher Teepee Creek trailhead and follow the creek valley uphill through forest, wet subalpine ground and a succession of small waterfalls. Use the signed Big Rock and Lower Teepee Lake connections to link the two branches, returning to the same higher trailhead. The local guide describes this loop as approximately 13 km with 950 m of total gain. The ground undulates between the lake and Big Rock, so this is longer than simply reversing the lake approach. Establish the loop direction on the local route map at the junctions; the source does not provide a complete left/right sequence for every branch. The summit route leaves the loop area and is a separate extension.

1. Getting there and parking

From Valemount, drive north on Highway 5 past the railway overpass and turn right onto Stone Road/Tinsley Pit Road, almost opposite the Terry Fox rest stop. Cross the railway only at the designated crossing, follow the posted access signs, and keep left toward Tinsley Pit Road. The signed approach includes a sharp left turn before continuing several kilometres uphill to the newer Teepee Creek parking lot. The local guide recommends a high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicle and provides an access-road map because ordinary road maps may omit the final approach. The old Mount Terry Fox trail starts much lower, near the rail crossing, and is not the same trailhead.

How the route order was checked

YORA identifies a loop via Big Rock and Lower Teepee Lake from the higher Teepee Creek trailhead. The named OSM Teepee Lake Loop and Mount Terry Fox connection form an exactly closed source component, joined at an identical coordinate to the approach. The approach starts 9 m from the source-published trailhead. Outing line measures about11.1 km against YORA’s13 km estimate; published distance is retained and the summit extension is excluded.

5. Camping, facilities and seasons

Camping and tenting

The local guide identifies outhouses at the parking area and lake, but it does not establish a bookable campsite or unrestricted overnight permission there. Confirm the park’s current camping rules before turning this day hike into an overnight trip.

Season and access

The local guide lists the lake for May through September, subject to actual snow conditions. Higher terrain can remain snowy well into summer; the peak route is a summer objective and is not a documented winter variation.
