Banff National Park
A farther-destination planning overview for Banff National Park. Choose an individual Parks Canada hiking itinerary before comparing distances, elevation gain, trailhead access or overnight requirements.
1. Getting there and parking
One broad driving corridor from Prince George follows Highway 16 toward Jasper, the Icefields Parkway south, then the Trans-Canada Highway toward Lake Louise or Banff. That corridor reaches a large national park rather than a single trailhead. Check highway conditions and the actual route’s parking or transit arrangements; the park overview does not supply a forest-road driving estimate or directions to every hike. Parks Canada provides separate visitor information for Banff and Lake Louise. Its current park page directs visitors planning Lake Louise and Moraine Lake visits to transit and reservation information. Confirm the relevant arrangements for the chosen destination before treating a map pin as a drive-up start.
2. Choosing an outing
Use Parks Canada’s hiking information to select a named day hike or backcountry itinerary, then read its current trail conditions and important bulletins. Banff combines valley sightseeing, lake visits and strenuous mountain routes; a park-wide distance, difficulty or elevation profile would merge unrelated outings. This entry is an overview for trip planning beyond the main Prince George region. It does not represent a completed trail or provide a GPX route across the park. A multi-day visit needs separate plans for each trail, transport between trailheads and any accommodation or camping reservation.

Published locations only. A complete route line is still needed.
Published locations
Numbered points match the map. Use the role beside each point. A summit or park reference point is not a parking location.

Camping and tenting
Use Parks Canada’s Banff camping and accommodation information for the intended campground or backcountry itinerary. A national-park entry or hiking guide does not reserve an overnight space.
