A short, steep climb near Hudson’s Hope follows the powerline corridor toward a BC Hydro facility and views of Williston Lake. Its compact distance still involves substantial climbing.

1. Getting there and parking

From Chetwynd follow Highway 29 to Hudson’s Hope. Turn onto Canyon Drive toward W.A.C. Bennett Dam and continue 14.7 km, then turn right onto Twelve Mile Road. After approximately 500 m, look for the Bullhead Mountain sign on the right; a parking pullout is described just beyond it. These details come from a July 2016 review, so confirm current signage and keep utility access clear.

Parking: The July 2016 guide places a pullout just beyond the Bullhead Mountain sign, about 500 m along Twelve Mile Road after Canyon Drive.

2. Walking the route

Follow the steep route roughly along the powerlines toward the upper utility facility. The club gives approximately 3.83 km return and 420 m of climbing, allowing about three hours. The upper views take in Williston Lake and the surrounding mountains, but the facility itself is operational infrastructure rather than a visitor attraction. Stay on the walking route and obey any current barriers or utility signs. Berries along the approach attract wildlife; maintain awareness through the brush. Return down the same steep line instead of following an unverified powerline spur.

  1. Follow the steep powerline-side route toward the upper utility facility, respecting current gates and operating areas.

The return

Descend the same steep approach. The dated guide gives 3.83 km return, 420 m gain and about three hours; it describes a route requiring navigation skills.
