Access and trail reports

Anzac approach road report

A trip contributor reported a clear road with no deactivation on September 15, 2026. This observation concerns that journey; industrial activity, road condition and access can change.

Reported 2026-09-15 · checked 2026-10-17 · Hiking Prince George contributor

Reports describe the cited dates. An expected reopening date does not establish reopened access.

An undeveloped approach in the Anzac backcountry climbs through a cutblock and forest toward Erratic Ridge and Burden Peak country. This is a route-finding trip with brush, uncertain marking and several possible alpine endpoints.

1. Getting there and parking

The club’s road outline starts 86 km north of Prince George on Highway 97: turn right onto Redrocky Road, travel about 7.7 km, then bear left onto Colbourne Road. After approximately 28 km on Colbourne, it describes a right turn onto an unnamed forest road followed for about 30 km. The missing road name is a material gap, so use the linked drive map and current local confirmation before attempting that final leg; this prose alone cannot identify every junction. The illustrated route report describes active resource-road travel with logging and pipeline traffic and calls for an appropriate two-way radio. A September 15, 2026 report found the road clear with no deactivation at that time. It does not establish the present road condition, current radio channel or legal parking arrangement.

Modeled one-way driving time from Prince George City Hall, using mapped road speeds. Forest-road sections can take substantially longer: surface, clearance, radio procedures, gates, washouts, plowing, and legal access are not verified by the router. No live traffic or invented forest-road multiplier is included. Allow extra time and check the dated access notes.

2. Walking the route

The illustrated report leaves the top northeast corner of a clearcut and enters forest where intermittent flagging leads uphill toward the alpine. There is no developed trail throughout: expect to identify the route, work through brush and retain the descent line rather than simply following a continuous tread. Once above the forest, the outing can extend across ridge and lake terrain; the published text does not establish a single verified summit itinerary. Carry water for the lower approach. The source reports lakes and ponds only after reaching the alpine, with a stream down a deep ravine away from the walking line. It also reports no cell reception. Its narrative describes a typical 17.5 km return outing, while the displayed recording is 12.29 km with unequal ascent and descent totals. Those are not interchangeable measurements of a completed round trip. The club leaves distance and duration unspecified, and its index supplies an unscoped 780 m gain. Choose a clearly documented endpoint and complete navigation plan before treating any of those numbers as the day’s total.

Measurement notes

780 m

The 780 m gain comes from the club index and is not assigned to a verified endpoint. The detail page leaves distance and duration unspecified.

The illustrated report describes a typical 17.5 km round trip but displays a separate 12.29 km recording with 1,031 m ascent and 271 m descent. Recording extent and endpoint are not established as the same outing.
