Access and trail reports
Initial road section brushed
The old-road section beyond the creek was brushed on July 20,2025. The removed bridge and brushy summit approach remain separate access and route-finding issues.

Initial approach brushed
The club reported brushing the initial old-road section across the creek. The summit route above the lower lake still requires route finding.

Caledonia offers a steep ascent to a chain of alpine lakes and ridges above the Bowron–Tumuch road system. The first ridge and lake make a substantial outing; reaching the actual mountain summit adds a brushier section with more route finding. The published summit trip is about 14 km return with roughly 1,400 m of ascent, while the first-ridge objective has a separate 960 m gain estimate. These are different turnaround choices.
1. Getting there and parking
Follow Highway 16 east to Bowron Forest Service Road and turn south. Turn left onto Tumuch FSR and continue to the second Everett Creek crossing, around road kilometre 51.3. About 400 m beyond that bridge, take the sharply right uphill fork. Continue approximately 4.5 km, keeping right past a newer uphill logging branch that dead-ends, and cross the intervening bridges to the removed bridge at Everett Creek. Park before the missing crossing. Older descriptions mention logs across the creek; their stability and the present water level must be checked on arrival, and an unsafe crossing is a reason to turn back.
- At the second Everett Creek bridge on Tumuch FSR, around km 51.3, continue another roughly 400 m.
- Take the sharp right uphill fork. Continue about 4.5 km, keeping right past the newer uphill branch that ends in a logging block.
- Stop at the missing Everett Creek bridge. Assess water and any crossing before proceeding; turn back if there is no safe crossing.
Parking: Park before the removed Everett Creek bridge at the end of the final resource-road approach. The guide’s old mention of crossing logs is not proof of a safe crossing today.
2. Walking the route
After a safe creek crossing, follow the old road and marked route into a steep meadow with burned trees. This opening climb has little level recovery ground and can be hot and exposed to insects. The route reaches the first ridge and lakes, where a turnaround is possible without continuing to the named summit. For the summit extension, the club guide describes approximately 3 km farther north from the lake area and warns of brush between Emerald Lake and the summit ridge. Match the route to a topographic map and record the return line through that section; clear weather and a visible ridge do not remove the route-finding problem.
The return
The first ridge/lakes and the summit are separate turnarounds. The summit route adds about 3 km north from the lake area and includes brushy navigation near Emerald Lake; retain the same descent and creek-crossing plan.
3. Route map
Published locations only. A complete route line is still needed.
Published locations
Numbered points match the map. Use the role beside each point. A summit or park reference point is not a parking location.

5. Camping, facilities and seasons
Camping and tenting
Both reviewed accounts describe potential tent spots beside the alpine lakes. These are undeveloped backcountry opportunities, not reserved or serviced campsites. Confirm current land-use and fire rules, avoid fragile shoreline vegetation, and treat lake or creek water.
Season and access
A July 4, 2026 report reached the nearer summit rather than Caledonia’s main peak. It found a wet trail, small snow patches on that ridge and considerably more snow on the saddle descent toward the lake. A July 20, 2025 brushing update applied only to the initial old-road section across the creek, not the whole summit route.

Measurement notes
About 8 km to first ridges and lake. About 14 km return to summit.
