Claymine is a gentle forest circuit around a large boulder left by glaciation, west of Quesnel. The regional district describes approximately 1 km of low-mobility trail, with an accessible picnic table on the route and an accessible outhouse and information kiosk at the start. Birdlife, including a heron nesting area, is part of the appeal; give nesting birds space.

1. Getting there and parking

From central Quesnel, cross the Moffat Bridge to the west side of the Fraser. Turn right onto Elliott Street, continue through its left bend, then follow Foster Avenue and North Fraser Drive toward Blackwater Road. At the Nazko/Centennial junction, keep onto Blackwater Road. After about 1.62 km, bear right onto Claymine Road and continue 700 m; the trail entrance is on the left. Use the information kiosk to confirm the circuit before starting.

Parking: The signed entrance is on the left about 700 m along Claymine Road; an information kiosk marks the route.

2. Walking the route

The signed low-mobility route enters the forest, circles the large glacial boulder and returns to its starting area. Use the kiosk map to remain on that approximately 1 km circuit rather than assuming surrounding tracks have the same surface or grade. The district characterizes the grade as gentle and identifies the picnic table as an intermediate resting place. Published accessibility describes the designed trail; it does not confirm that current mud, snow or fallen branches have been cleared.

  1. Use the kiosk map to follow the gentle forest circuit around the large glacial boulder.
  2. Complete the loop back to the same trailhead.

The return

The district describes a roughly 1 km loop.
