Dragon Lake is a broad recreation destination on the south side of Quesnel, best known for fishing and lake access. The older hiking listing labels an easy loop but gives no measured distance, trail sequence or exact start, so it does not establish a walk around the whole lake. For a defined walking outing, Pioneer Park provides a separately documented small trail network on the west shore.

1. Getting there and parking

The older club approach follows Highway 97 south of Quesnel for approximately 4.2 km, then turns left onto Gook Road and continues about 3 km. Where Gook meets Jay Road, it turns left and then takes the first right to resume Gook Road. That account does not identify a final public trailhead or parking lot. Choose a named access before setting out: Pioneer Park is reached via Campsite Road, while the public boat launch is on Quesnel-Hydraulic Road. These access points serve different outings.

2. Walking the route

For the supported walking option, use Pioneer Park’s trail kiosk and follow its packed gravel paths through forest and green space toward the lake viewpoint. The park’s paths total about 1 km, with a somewhat steeper approach to the lookout and picnic facilities for a rest. This small park network should not be confused with the older unmeasured Dragon Lake “loop.” Shoreline roads, private properties and boat access do not together establish a public walking circuit around the lake.
