Bear Lake & northern lakes / Full trip pack
Goodsir Nature Park
A privately developed botanical park combines woodland walking, labelled plants and trees, gardens and an indoor naturalist collection. It is particularly suited to a slow interpretive visit rather than a timed fitness hike.
1. Getting there and parking
From Prince George drive approximately 23 km north on Highway 97, then turn left onto Old Summit Lake Road. Continue about 4.7 km to the park on the left at 22825 Old Summit Lake Road North. The operator publishes a May–October season and daily hours of 8 am–6 pm, with admission by donation. Confirm arrangements with the operator for a group visit or an overnight stay.
- Travel north on Highway 97 to Old Summit Lake Road, approximately 23 km from Prince George in the club directions.
- Turn left onto Old Summit Lake Road and continue about 4.7 km to the park on the left.
Drive from Prince George: 34.9 km · approximately 34 minutes. Estimate; allow for road conditions and stops.
Modeled one-way driving time from downtown Prince George using mapped road speeds, rounded up to a whole minute. No live traffic or invented forest-road multiplier. Estimate reaches the published address entrance; follow operator signage for the final driveway and parking. The operator publishes a May–October season.
2. Walking the route
Explore the approximately 3 km of paths through the botanical collections, taking time to read the identification signs and visit the gardens. Trails also pass the beaver-pond habitat, where wildlife and waterfowl may be seen without leaving the paths. The indoor plant museum adds a different part of the visit when available. Published highlights change with the season: flowers in early summer, berries later in summer and autumn foliage. The club describes wheelchair-accessible trails, but no measured grades or complete surface audit were available, so confirm the section suitable for your needs directly with the operator.
The return
The club’s ordinary park walk is described as a 3 km loop. Other mapped circuits may use fewer paths; return to the entrance used rather than treating every network branch as required.
