Access and trail reports
Robson watercraft and wading equipment restriction
From May 4, 2026, BC Parks prohibits watercraft and wading equipment throughout Mount Robson Park waters to limit aquatic disease spread. This includes powered and unpowered craft, inflatables, wading clothing and boots. The hiking trails are not closed by this notice.

Reports describe the cited dates. An expected reopening date does not establish reopened access.
From the upper Berg Lake camps, climb to views of Hargreaves Lake and its glacier, then combine the visit with Toboggan Falls and a lakeshore return. The long approach to the camps is additional to this side hike.
1. Getting there and parking
From Highway 16, turn into the signed Mount Robson park entrance near the Welcome Centre and follow Kinney Lake Road about 2.3 km to the road-end Berg Lake Trail parking. This is the vehicle access for the whole Berg Lake corridor. The waterfall and upper-basin destinations have no separate road approach. First hike the main corridor to a reserved upper campground near Berg Lake. The side-trip distances on this record begin in that upper area and exclude the much longer approach from the road.
- From Highway 16 at Mount Robson, follow Kinney Lake Road to its end and the Berg Lake trailhead.
Parking: The road-access trailhead is at the end of Kinney Lake Road near the Mount Robson Welcome Centre. Upper-corridor camps and viewpoints cannot be reached by car.
2. Walking the route
Use the Hargreaves/Toboggan connection above the Berg Lake shore. The published loop can be entered near Marmot campground or from the Toboggan Creek side of Berg Lake campground. Climb toward the Hargreaves Lake lookout for elevated views of the lake, glacier and surrounding peaks, then follow the signed connection toward Toboggan Falls and return to the lakeside trail. The commonly described 6 km loop includes both Hargreaves and Toboggan; a direct out-and-back to one viewpoint is a different outing. Do not add the Mumm Basin connection merely to complete a loop without checking its separate damage and closure information.
- Begin the day outing from Berg Lake campground beside Toboggan Creek, or join at the Hargreaves junction near Marmot campground. Reaching either start first requires the separate Berg Lake approach.
- Follow the signed connection between Toboggan Falls and the Hargreaves Lake lookout. Choose the destination at upper junctions rather than taking a Mumm Basin branch without checking its status.
- Complete the circuit using the lakeshore trail between Marmot and Berg Lake campgrounds. A direct return from a single viewpoint is a different outing.
The return
The first-hand July 2025 report describes the combined Hargreaves/Toboggan circuit as 6 km with about 340 m gain and 2–4 hours from Berg Lake campground. The separate AllTrails approach from Marmot is not this complete combined loop.

5. Camping, facilities and seasons
Camping and tenting
Overnight stays on the Berg Lake corridor must use designated campground sites. Peak-season reservations are required, and campfires are prohibited year-round. Dogs are allowed only on leashed day trips, never on an overnight trip; Snowbird Pass excludes dogs entirely.
Water
The Berg Lake corridor has a permanent water-treatment advisory. Treat water before drinking, cooking or other use.
Season and access
The lookout route rises above the lakeshore into exposed terrain. Snow can cover junctions and wet rock can make the steeper sections slippery. Check both the main corridor and individual side-trail advisories before leaving camp.
Winter route
BC Parks allows winter use, but warns of severe winter conditions. Use designated camping areas and check current advisories and avalanche conditions; the summer itinerary is not a validated winter track.
Mobile service
BC Parks reports no mobile-phone service on the trail. Service and Wi-Fi are available at the Welcome Centre.
