one-way trail chainage from Kinuseo campground; not road access
Official Monkman map marks camp at trail km 33; these are route-chainage values, not road distances.
1. Getting there and parking
From Tumbler Ridge, travel south on Highway 52 for approximately 13–14 km and turn right onto Kinuseo Falls Road. Continue on the signed park approach, keeping left at the junction after the first Murray River crossing. The gravel road is prone to washboard and potholes; allow slow travel and follow industrial-road signs. For the backcountry trail, park in the day-use area at Kinuseo Falls campground, around road kilometre 50. The signed one-kilometre spur to the falls parking is a different destination.
2. Walking the route
Hugh Lake Camp is an on-foot backcountry destination at approximately kilometre 33 on the official northern-route camp map. This mapped camp lies beyond Monkman Lake on the unmaintained wilderness continuation. Reaching it requires a separate alpine route plan rather than simply following a consistently maintained lake trail. The pin marks a camp, not a place a vehicle can reach. Plan the entire approach and return or onward stage before selecting this as an overnight stop.
- Reach Monkman Lake by the main backcountry trail, approximately 25 km from Kinuseo Falls campground.
- Beyond Monkman Lake, the official map changes to an unmaintained wilderness route. Hugh Lake is labelled at approximately 33 km from the northern trailhead. The map does not supply a reliable turn-by-turn route or present condition report.
The return
An out-and-back from Kinuseo Falls campground would require the entire long return through the wilderness section and main Monkman trail. This named camp is not a roadside camping option.
3. Route map
Published locations only. A complete route line is still needed.
Published locations
Numbered points match the map. Use the role beside each point. A summit or park reference point is not a parking location.

5. Camping, facilities and seasons
Camping and tenting
The official map identifies this as wilderness camping beyond the maintained trail. No tent pads, toilet or food cache are confirmed for this specific camp; do not apply the lower managed-camp amenity list to it.
Water
Backcountry water requires treatment under the park’s advisory.
Season and access
Mountain weather is changeable even in summer, with cool rain and wind common. BC Parks says the access road is maintained only to kilometre 21 in winter, so the summer road-end start is not a normal winter driving destination. Water must be treated, and overnight parties need a stove and a complete backcountry plan.
