Interconnected sandy pine-and-lichen trail network.

1. Getting there and parking

From Valemount, travel north on Highway 5 for approximately 12.5 km and take the signed Jackman Flats park turnoff. Use the main trail parking area, where an outhouse is listed. A high-clearance vehicle is not required for the published main access; this is different from the separate horse-trailer approach described on Blackman Road.

Road and vehicle: The local guide does not call for a high-clearance 4WD vehicle for this approach.

Drive from Prince George: 278.9 km · approximately 227 minutes. Estimate; allow for road conditions and stops.

Modeled one-way driving time from Prince George City Hall, using mapped road speeds. Forest-road sections can take substantially longer: surface, clearance, radio procedures, gates, washouts, plowing, and legal access are not verified by the router. No live traffic or invented forest-road multiplier is included. Allow extra time and check the dated access notes.

2. Walking the route

Follow the signed Juniper option through the Jackman Flats network and use the junction map to return to the main parking area. The local guide lists about 3.4 km for this outing, but the named trails interconnect, so adding another branch changes the total. The route crosses sandy ground and open forest with interpretive signs, mountain views and fragile lichen communities. Stay on the tread: the surrounding lichen is easily damaged by footsteps. Fallen pine trees can obstruct sections after wind.

5. Camping, facilities and seasons

Toilets

An outhouse is listed near the parking area.

Season and access

Spring through autumn are the usual walking seasons. Sand and exposed areas can become hot in summer. In winter the network is track-set for cross-country skiing; walking and dog use can damage those prepared tracks, so follow the current winter rules and designated use.

Dogs

Keep dogs leashed during the walking season to protect the lichen and other trail users. The local guide gives conflicting winter wording, describing dogs as both discouraged and prohibited; check the current ski-season signs rather than assuming summer access rules apply.

Mobile service

The local guide reports cell reception. Coverage has not been tested across carriers.
