Steep climb to meadows and alpine lake.
1. Getting there and parking
From Valemount, follow Whiskey Fill Road south to Canoe Forest Service Road, then turn left and continue about 20 km toward the marina and campgrounds, keeping right at the approach forks. Beyond the marina, take the left branch at each of the next two forks. Continue roughly 8 km along the logging road to a small creek bridge, where the guide identifies roadside parking clear of traffic. High clearance is required. Logging can be active; follow the posted radio procedure and current road restrictions.
Road and vehicle: The local guide recommends a high-clearance 4WD vehicle for the trailhead road.
Drive from Prince George: 326.8 km · approximately 346 minutes. Estimate; allow for road conditions and stops.
Modeled one-way driving time from Prince George City Hall, using mapped road speeds. Forest-road sections can take substantially longer: surface, clearance, radio procedures, gates, washouts, plowing, and legal access are not verified by the router. No live traffic or invented forest-road multiplier is included. Allow extra time and check the dated access notes.
2. Walking the route
Climb the steep route toward Lily Meadows, also known as Bulldog Ridge, then continue through the alpine meadows toward the lake near the Horse Creek headwaters. The documented main outing is approximately 8.4 km return with 800 m of gain. Wet lower ground and steep rocky sections can make footing difficult. The lake is a practical turnaround for the ordinary out-and-back. The source also describes a much rougher waterfall-side descent with an unmarked rockslide and route-finding beside Horse Creek; it is not an equivalent easy loop and should not be added without a separate advanced route plan.

5. Camping, facilities and seasons
Camping and tenting
Horse Creek campground is described near the bottom of the access road. No designated or serviced alpine tent site was verified on the Lily Meadows route itself.
Toilets
The guide identifies a toilet at Horse Creek campground, at the bottom of the approach road.
Season and access
Late June to late September is the local guide’s usual hiking window. Glacier lilies can flower around late June and early July, but timing varies with snowmelt. Bears forage in the meadows, mosquitoes and flies can be persistent, and wet conditions make the lower ground and rocky descent particularly slippery.
Mobile service
The local guide reports intermittent cell reception.
