Steep path enters wet meadow with lake and waterfall.

1. Getting there and parking

Drive south from Valemount on Highway 5 for approximately 3.5 km, then take the right-hand logging-road approach identified by the local guide’s access map. The forest-road drive is roughly 16 km to the hiking start and usually requires a high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicle. Logging may be active, so obey signs and any radio requirements. The guide notes that the trailhead sign may read only “Trail” after part of its lettering was removed; use the mapped road approach rather than searching for a complete mountain-name sign.

Road and vehicle: The local guide says a high-clearance 4WD is usually needed on the approach road.

Drive from Prince George: 301.3 km · approximately 290 minutes. Estimate; allow for road conditions and stops.

Modeled one-way driving time from Prince George City Hall, using mapped road speeds. Forest-road sections can take substantially longer: surface, clearance, radio procedures, gates, washouts, plowing, and legal access are not verified by the router. No live traffic or invented forest-road multiplier is included. Allow extra time and check the dated access notes.

2. Walking the route

Climb the steep, sometimes overgrown trail toward the subalpine meadow, first lake, creek and waterfall. The local guide describes roughly 6.4 km return with 425 m of gain for this meadow outing, not an ascent of the mountain summit. Expect brush, fallen trees and flagging that becomes difficult to follow once the meadow opens. A large log crossing over a stream is part of the described route; assess its condition before using it. Wet meadow ground and slippery steep sections slow travel, so return on a route you can clearly retrace.

3. Route map

Numbered points match the map. Use the role beside each point. A summit or park reference point is not a parking location.

5. Camping, facilities and seasons

Toilets

The guide identifies the Visitor Centre as the public washroom option before heading to the trail.

Season and access

The local guide suggests late June through late September. Grizzly bears forage in the meadow in spring and summer, and mosquitoes can be severe in June and July. This is an unmaintained hiking route; no separate maintained winter route was verified.

Mobile service

The local guide reports intermittent cell reception.

Measurement notes

Source comparison: Mt. Trudeau; 6.4 km; 425 m ascent; 6.4 km to meadow 20 km to peak distance; 425 m to meadow ascent; 3–5 hours return to meadow; summit is a separate long outing duration; return to meadow / first lake scope. This is another description of the main outing, a duplicate endpoint, an unscoped source claim, or a related facility.
