A protected volcanic gorge preserves the dry Grand Canyon of the Nechako near Kenney Dam. It is a landscape destination with no developed canyon hiking circuit; the documented nearby footpath is the separate Cheslatta Falls route.
1. Getting there and parking
The protected area lies roughly 80 km southwest of Vanderhoof. Holy Cross FSR approaches the west side and Kenney Dam Road the east. Those roads reach different sides of the canyon, so do not navigate to a generic canyon-centre pin expecting a trailhead. For the documented walking outing, use the Cheslatta River Recreation Site and signed falls trail access; see the separate Cheslatta Falls directions for the road sequence.
2. Walking the route
BC Parks does not identify a developed trail through the canyon itself. Its published walking option starts near the recreation site and follows the Cheslatta River about 1.2 km one way to the falls where it meets the Nechako. Remain on that marked trail and keep away from steep drop-offs and wet rock. The dry-looking gorge is not evidence of a safe off-trail route beneath cliffs or through the riverbed. Archaeological features in the area are protected; do not disturb depressions, artifacts or other cultural traces. Use the separate falls record for that outing’s distance and route details.
3. Route map
Published locations only. A complete route line is still needed.

Numbered points match the map. Use the role beside each point. A summit or park reference point is not a parking location.
