one way
A steep service-road climb reaches a lookout and communications facilities above the Nechako Valley. The straightforward objective still involves continuous uphill walking on rough gravel.
1. Getting there and parking
The drive to the access gate is approximately 41 km from Vanderhoof’s visitor centre, but the municipal source does not publish a complete sequence of road turns and explicitly directs visitors to the centre for current directions. Obtain that road guidance before leaving town. The gate is the start of the published walk; neither the summit pin nor the road’s appearance establishes permission to drive higher.
Parking: The district identifies a gated road start about 41 km by road from the visitor centre, but directs visitors to the centre for the non-direct approach. It does not publish enough final turns to replace that advice.
2. Walking the route
From the gate, follow the rough gravel road uphill to the summit area with the lookout tower and radio facilities. The district gives 2.7 km one way and rates the walk moderate to hard because the climb continues throughout. Stay clear of operating communications equipment and return down the same road. The descent can be as demanding as the climb on loose gravel. This description does not confirm that the tower is open to climb, and no alternate trail or summit loop is established in the reviewed municipal source.
- From the confirmed gate, walk the rough gravel road uphill to the radio station and lookout.
The return
The road climb is 2.7 km one way, making approximately 5.4 km when retraced. The full descent is part of the walk.
3. Route map
Published locations only. A complete route line is still needed.
Published locations
Numbered points match the map. Use the role beside each point. A summit or park reference point is not a parking location.
