Access and trail reports

Historical winter road-plowing report

For winter 2025/26 the source reported no active grading or plowing on Tumuch FSR and plowing on Bowron FSR only to kilometre 51. This is not a statement about winter 2026/27.

Trail cleared to meadows

The source reports fallen trees cleared as far as the meadows on July 25,2026.

Meadow approach cleared in July 2026

The club reported clearing fallen trees from the trail to the meadows on July 25, 2026. This is a dated maintenance observation and does not cover every ridge extension or later conditions.

Reports describe the cited dates. An expected reopening date does not establish reopened access.

An old road and forest ascent lead to high meadows, followed by optional ridge travel with views into the surrounding mountain and lake basins. The ridge extensions and final driving point can change the outing substantially.

1. Getting there and parking

The illustrated approach leaves Highway 16 on Bowron Forest Service Road, travels roughly 20 km south, then turns left onto Tumuch Forest Service Road for about another 50 km to the signed Vineyards spur. These are approximate source distances; use the linked road maps and current road signs to identify the actual junctions. The report provides separate highway, logging-road and final-spur directions because a general road-routing service may select an unsuitable approach. A September 2021 note suggests parking about 600 m up the spur where an ordinary car could reach with care at that time. Beyond it, deep cross-ditches required high clearance in that report. Stopping lower adds walking. Do not treat an old vehicle assessment as a current clearance guarantee, and leave industrial access unobstructed.

Modeled one-way driving time from Prince George City Hall, using mapped road speeds. Forest-road sections can take substantially longer: surface, clearance, radio procedures, gates, washouts, plowing, and legal access are not verified by the router. No live traffic or invented forest-road multiplier is included. Allow extra time and check the dated access notes. Seasonal access notes apply; this estimate does not establish plowing or winter road access.

2. Walking the route

Follow the old road through the brushy lower section, cross the former cutblock and climb through subalpine forest to the first open meadows. The club divides this approach into about 3.3 km of road, 600 m across the cutblock and 1 km in forest. These stages exceed its separate 4 km meadow figure, so neither should be silently treated as an accurately measured total. The meadows are around 1,800 m elevation; crossing them leads toward the ridge and a choice of further mountain travel. Set a turnaround before continuing along the ridge. The illustrated report describes longer 12.7–18 km outings and explains that reaching higher lakes can require a substantial descent followed by a climb back. It places a water opportunity below the first meadow on the left, but the observation does not guarantee seasonal flow or potable water. Reported cell coverage was weak and limited to some high points. A July 25, 2026 maintenance notice says fallen trees were cleared to the meadows; that dated notice does not establish the condition of every ridge extension.

Season and access

For winter 2025–26 the club reported no active grading or plowing on Tumuch FSR, with Bowron FSR plowed only to kilometre 51. That statement applies to that season. Obtain a new road report for a later winter and do not assume the summer spur remains drivable.
