Access and trail reports

Grizzly activity in Evanoff Park

A park notice updated April 28, 2026 identifies regular grizzly activity, including family groups. BC Parks advises travelling together, making noise and carrying bear spray. This notice is not a trail closure.

1. Getting there and parking

The modern summit report uses a separate Upper Torpy Road start about 15 km from the Pass Lake Road turn, approximately 10 km farther east than the Torpy Trail start for Evanoff Park. Confirm that distinct start before travelling: a road pin for the short park trail does not identify the summit approach. The report’s August 2025 road assessment is dated and needs a current check.

Parking: The illustrated summit report starts about 15 km along Upper Torpy Road from Pass Lake Road, roughly 10 km beyond the separate Torpy park-trail entrance. The August 2025 road assessment is dated.

2. Walking the route

From the separate road start, follow the quad track about 2 km into the subalpine. Near a large rock, look for the marked left-hand departure toward the mountain; the main quad track continues east to the right. Beyond that junction, portions of the mountain route are unmarked and can be lost in the alpine. The reported approximately 12 km return summit outing is separate from the short Torpy basin trail and from a traverse via Fang. The reviewed sources do not establish a continuous signed connection from every lake-route endpoint, so choose and map one specific approach before departure.

  1. Follow the quad track about 2 km into the subalpine.
  2. Near a large rock, find the marked left-hand departure; the main quad track continues east to the right.
  3. Above that junction the route becomes intermittently unmarked, requiring alpine navigation to the chosen mountain objective.

The return

Return to the same distinct road start. The report describes approximately 12 km return; it is not an extension automatically reachable from every short park-trail endpoint.

5. Camping, facilities and seasons

Season and access

A June 2025 report still encountered snow patches and an August 2025 report described rough sections on Upper Torpy Road. Those observations do not establish present access or a marked winter route.
