one-way spur from main trail km 7

https://hikingprincegeorge.com/hikes/wapiti-falls-spur

A waterfall viewpoint reached by a short side path after a substantial walk along the remote Wapiti River trail.

1. Getting there and parking

Approach on Ojay Main Road south of Tumbler Ridge and use the 2500 Road to the old well-site trailhead. The walking route starts at the southwest corner of that clearing. BC Parks gives inconsistent turn distances on Ojay Main, referring to both kilometre 25 and kilometre 29, so confirm the signed 2500 Road junction and current access before departure. Off-road motorized vehicles are prohibited inside the park.

Road and vehicle: The official Ojay Main access paragraph conflicts between kilometre 25 and 29 for the 2500 Road turn; confirm the named junction before leaving. Motorized off-road vehicles are prohibited inside the park.

2. Walking the route

Walk the main Wapiti Onion Trail along the north side of the Wapiti River to the waterfall turnoff around kilometre 7. Follow the approximately 200 m side path to the Wapiti Falls viewpoint, then return to the main route. A day trip that turns back here still includes roughly 14 km of main-trail walking plus the viewpoint spur; the 200 m figure is not the complete hike from the road. Continuing to Wapiti Lake adds another long stage. View the falls from the established path and stay clear of the fast water and waterfall edge.

  1. From the southwest corner of the old well-site clearing, follow the main Wapiti Onion Trail beside the north side of the river.
  2. Near trail kilometre 7, take the approximately 200 m side path to the falls view.

The return

Return along the spur and main trail: approximately 14.4 km from the road if turning back at the falls. The 200 m listing measures only the side branch.

RSTBC Wapiti Trail REC1076 explicitly publishes these trailhead coordinates in its driving-directions field. They differ from the management point stored in LATITUDE/LONGITUDE. BC Parks describes the lake route and falls spur as using the Wapiti Lake access trail.

5. Camping, facilities and seasons

Camping and tenting

No designated campsite was verified at the falls viewpoint. BC Parks identifies the cabin and tenting area at Wapiti Lake farther along the main corridor; do not substitute the viewpoint for a documented overnight location.

Season and access

Water levels, snow and remote road access affect the feasibility of the outing. The short spur does not make this a roadside waterfall or a reliably accessible winter stop.
