Climb the established Westridge trail from the forest-road access to the rustic cabin, then return on the same steep route. This selected outing stops at the cabin; a further lake visit needs its own mapped continuation.
1. Getting there and parking
Travel south from Valemount on Highway 5 and turn right onto Canoe River Forest Service Road. Keep left at the fork to continue southwest, then follow the road for about 12.4 km to the Westridge trail sign on the right. A high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicle is recommended. Park well outside the travelled road so industrial and other traffic can pass.
Drive from Prince George: 307.8 km · approximately 306 minutes. Estimate; allow for road conditions and stops.
Modeled one-way driving time from Prince George City Hall, using mapped road speeds. Forest-road sections can take substantially longer: surface, clearance, radio procedures, gates, washouts, plowing, and legal access are not verified by the router. No live traffic or invented forest-road multiplier is included. Allow extra time and check the dated access notes.
2. Walking the route
Climb the established Westridge trail from the forest-road access to the rustic cabin, then return on the same steep route. This selected outing stops at the cabin; a further lake visit needs its own mapped continuation.
Mapped outing: Published hiking start → Cabin → Published hiking start. 7.8 km measured along the mapped line; published trip measurements may differ.

Elevation along the outing
Full round trip
Start: Published hiking start · Turn around: Cabin (3.9 km) · Finish: Published hiking start (7.8 km mapped).
Approximate ground elevation from a 90 m terrain model. Distance follows the mapped itinerary and may differ from published walking distance. This is a terrain-model profile, not a surveyed measurement. Any ascent total is identified separately with its own source or estimation method.
How the route order was checked
The line ends at the mapped cabin building inside the named West Ridge Cabin Recreation Site. The further lake is not included. The independently published trailhead is within the validated start tolerance. Returning on the same approach gives this specifically scoped outing.

5. Camping, facilities and seasons
Camping and tenting
A rustic backcountry shelter is described along the route, but it has no outhouse or provisions. The retained guide does not establish a booking system, guaranteed overnight space or designated lake tent pads. Confirm current overnight arrangements rather than relying on the shelter as emergency accommodation.
Season and access
The local guide recommends clear-weather trips between late June and late September. Snow, wet rock and low cloud can change the upper route considerably, and the high-clearance road approach must be checked separately.
How the elevation gain was established
Outing: out-and-back outing from Published hiking start to Cabin and back; 7.76 km along the mapped itinerary
Copernicus DEM 2021 GLO-90 via Open-Meteo (90 m resolution). v7-smoothed-ascent-1: interpolate retained terrain samples at 100 m spacing; apply one triangular 1:2:1 smoothing pass over ±100 m; preserve start, finish and documented turnaround heights; sum uphill excursions with a 5 m reversal threshold; round to nearest 10 m.
Approximate terrain-model ascent, not a field or GPS measurement. Coarse cells and smoothing can miss small climbs, switchbacks, structures and sharp terrain. Processing sensitivity is not a statistical confidence interval.

Measurement notes
Distance is measured from the mapped source line and doubled for the retraced return; it is not a substitute for a differently scoped published outing.
