Elevation along the outing
Full round trip
Start: Fort George Canyon west-side trail parking · Turn around: Fraser River end of the named Fort George Canyon Trail (6.6 km) · Finish: Fort George Canyon west-side trail parking (13.1 km mapped).
Approximate ground elevation from a 90 m terrain model. Distance follows the mapped itinerary and may differ from published walking distance. This is a terrain-model profile, not a surveyed measurement. Any ascent total is identified separately with its own source or estimation method.
How the route order was checked
The retained section 0 is the exact connected sequence of OSM ways 197544136 and 197544139: node 2077659548 to shared node 2077659659 to node 4817254405. Both ways are named Fort George Canyon Trail and cite DataBC Recreation Line. The start is 6.6 m from named parking node 4234560096, on the official western access. Its 6.566 km river endpoint is corroborated by the independent public Komoot route’s Fraser waypoint at 6.55 km and 13.1 km return. No lines are connected across gaps; side branches are excluded. BC Parks and the club describe an out-and-back river outing. Published 4.8 km one-way and 10 km totals remain conflicting claims; the reason is unresolved.

How the elevation gain was established
Outing: Caledonia Ramblers May 25, 2025 Fort George Canyon 13.2 km return hike; the independently mapped parking-to-Fraser return measures 13.13 km
This total is published for the named outing. Other starting points or turnarounds can produce different climbing totals.
Published club outing figure. PDF row and column alignment checked visually; measurement method is not stated.
The club trail page also publishes a shorter distance and 215 m descent. The 404 m gain is specifically paired with the 2025 scheduled return outing, not calculated from descent.

Measurement notes
The mapped west-side parking-to-Fraser itinerary is 6.57 km each way (about 13.1 km return). BC Parks publishes 4.8 km one way and Caledonia Ramblers lists 10 km; the reason for these different distances is not established.
The club’s trail page gives 215 m of descent, while its May 25, 2025 scheduled 13.2 km return explicitly gives 404 m elevation gain. The latter is the published ascent used here; it is not derived from descent or summit altitude.
Independent route comparison: Komoot describes a 13.1 km return with the Fraser waypoint at 6.55 km and 270 m ascent. Explore publishes 13.2 km and 436 m; a local recorded outing covers 14.22 km and 336 m ascent. Different route extents and elevation processing prevent treating those gains as interchangeable.
The 2025 club schedule explicitly pairs Fort George Canyon with 13.2 km, 404 m elevation gain and approximately 4 hours for a return hike. Its distance corroborates the 13.13 km independently mapped parking-to-Fraser outing; the source does not publish its GPS measurement method.
