return from summer trailhead; excludes winter road approach

https://hikingprincegeorge.com/hikes/8-mile-cabin

A short summer forest walk to a rustic six-person cabin on the Grizzly Den approach. Winter access adds the unplowed forest road.

1. Getting there and parking

Take Highway 16 east from Prince George to Hungary Creek Forest Service Road. PGBRS places the Grizzly Den / 8-Mile trailhead roughly 13 km along the unmaintained road. A vehicle with suitable clearance and all-wheel drive is recommended for summer. Check road conditions before leaving.

2. Walking the route

Follow the Grizzly Den trail to 8-Mile Cabin and return the same way. The published 1.5 km return distance starts at the summer trailhead. The cabin waypoint shown on the map is a destination, not roadside parking.

3. Route map

5. Camping, facilities and seasons

Camping and tenting

Cabin overnight stays require a PGBRS reservation. Maximum six people; bring a sleeping mat, sleeping bag and cooking equipment.

Season and access

Hungary Creek Forest Service Road is not plowed in winter, adding about 13 km each way to reach the summer trailhead. Snow-free vehicle access is usually mid-June to mid-October, subject to conditions.
