Deserters Creek Falls

Deserter’s Creek, also called Deep Creek locally, follows a creek valley to a waterfall and viewpoints southwest of Quesnel. The walking line first follows Narcosli Creek and then turns into Deserter Creek. Flood damage affects both access information and part of the creek-bank path, so the historical trailhead should not be treated as a fully verified current parking point.

Getting there & parking

Quesnel Tourism places the historical start at West Fraser Road and Narcosli Creek. Approach from Quesnel on West Fraser Road, but verify the current trailhead connection locally before travelling: the provincial road-recovery page states that a new 5.6 km paved alignment opened on August 22, 2023, east of Narcosli Creek, with damaged parts of the old road scheduled for decommissioning. Opening the new highway does not establish that the old trailhead parking or bridge remains accessible. Do not use old road pins to enter barricaded or decommissioned sections.

Point extracted from the original public trip map. A track start is evidence of where recording began, not certification of parking, legal access, road suitability or the complete route.

On the trail

From a confirmed legal trail entrance, follow the creek-valley path along Narcosli Creek, then the branch up Deserter Creek toward the waterfall. Tourism Quesnel describes intermediate viewpoints and benches, with an outhouse and picnic tables at the historical base. It also reports a washed-out section beside the creek; no repaired alignment or safe bypass is established in the reviewed sources. Turn back if the path is broken or requires an unsafe creek-bank traverse. The waterfall is an out-and-back objective; the small pool described in the source is not a safety assessment for swimming.

Conditions & seasons

The government road page was updated September 9, 2024 and records the new road’s 2023 opening. The tourism trail page’s creek-bank washout warning is undated. Neither provides a current inspection confirming uninterrupted trail access.
