Hixon Chutes
Hixon Chutes is the second short creek walk near Hixon Falls. Its destination is a constricted section of the gorge where the water funnels between rock walls. The path has more climbing and descending than the lower-falls walk despite taking a similarly short time, and the most open creek-level views require rougher footing.

Getting there & parking
Take Highway 97 to Hixon, turn east onto Hixon Creek Road and follow the gravel approach toward Hixon Falls. The August 2018 route stays left at the fork about 2 km from the highway and turns left at a T-junction near 3.8 km. The Chutes parking opening is approximately 200 m before the lower-falls parking area, with a small trail entrance in the trees. Distances come from an older visit; match the current junctions and signage. Potholes, narrow sections and roadside drop-offs can make this unsuitable for a low-clearance vehicle.
Map position: 53.42197, -122.58752 · highway turnoff for shared access road; trailhead farther ahead. Dated2018report gives Hwy97/HixonCreekRoad turnoffN53°25.318 W122°35.251 and documents both Falls and Chutes reached along that road. This is the highway turnoff, approximately3.6km before Chutes parking; do not display it as the hiking trailhead.
On the trail
Enter the small opening in the trees and descend the short forest route toward the creek.
Stop at a secure viewing point; the report’s closer chute view required rock movement beside water above the lower drop.
Full route notes
Enter the narrow opening beyond the Chutes parking area and descend toward the creek, allowing about ten minutes each way before time at the water. The 2018 report encountered fallen trees and a larger elevation change than the falls path. At the creek, the closest view of the constriction involved moving over rocks beside a pool. Stay back if spray, ice or high water makes the rock approach unsafe; reaching the pool does not establish safe swimming. Retrace the same path uphill. Do not assume a continuous creekside trail links this destination to Hixon Falls.
The way back
Climb back on the same trail. The dated account suggests about ten minutes each way, but supplies no measured complete distance.
Terrain: rough route.
