Black Point Trail
A historical forest trail descends to Francois Lake and continues along shore to Black Point. The municipal brochure still carries an indefinite closure after the 2018 fires, so its scenic route description is not an invitation to bypass a closure.

Getting there & parking
Historical access from Fraser Lake is west on Highway 16 for 3.9 km, south on Francois Lake Road for 7.1 km, left onto Nithi Road for 1.9 km, then right onto Dahlgren Road. Continue across the Nithi River bridge to the former small parking area at about 7.4 km on Dahlgren Road. The 2024 municipal brochure says the trail was closed indefinitely after the 2018 fires and directs visitors to check current recreation-site information. Confirm reopening and current signs before using this approach.
Map position: 53.98118, -125.05458 · official route inland endpoint; parking position unverified. BC Parks Black Point Trail KMZ contains one named 185-point LineString. Its inland endpoint is [-125.054579,53.981176,763.645996]; its opposite endpoint is at the lakeshore. Park description identifies road access from Paddle Hill FSR. Official route endpoint, not an individually labelled parking waypoint. The 2024 Fraser Lake guide reports indefinite closure following 2018 fires; the current park page describes the trail but does not establish reopening. Confirm current access before travel. On the trail
If the manager confirms the trail is open, descend about 1 km to Francois Lake.
Follow the pebble shore another approximately 500 m to Black Point.
Full route notes
The historical route descends approximately 1 km through forest to Francois Lake near an old cabin, then continues about 500 m along the shore to the rock outcrop at Black Point. A pebble beach provides the shoreline objective. Fire altered the forest described in older material, and its former easy-walking rating does not establish current ground or tree safety. The full historical approach is roughly 1.5 km one way. If the trail remains closed, do not enter or improvise a bypass; use another open lakeside route until the managing authority confirms access.
The way back
The documented approach is 1.5 km each way, approximately 3 km return.
Conditions & seasons
Season-specific access has not been established in this guide. Read the dated notices and original land-manager information before choosing a departure date.
These are dated research notes. Open the trip planner for current available weather and advisory feeds; no alert found does not establish that a trail or road is open.
Camping & overnight plans
On-route camping permission has not been established for this outing. Check the relevant land manager before planning an overnight stay; a mapped lake, cabin or previous tent location does not confirm permission.
