A full-route elevation profile is not available yet.

A reusable trail line has not yet been verified for this outing. Any location pin shows the published location described above; it does not draw the hike or establish a navigable approach.

Getting there & parking

Leave Highway 16 on Walker Creek Forest Service Road, about 138 km east of Prince George, cross the Fraser River and look for the POB road on the right approximately 1 km later. The historical trailhead is at an old block-road turn around POB kilometre 8. The source warns that this road is rutted and slippery when wet, and its July 2020 update describes washout problems near the Walker junction. Current vehicle access was not confirmed by that old report; determine where the road is actually passable before using the trailhead distance.

Map position: 53.71114, -120.77801 · start point of published trip track (parking unverified). Embedded trip-map feature 'Humbug Ridge': first recorded coordinate [-120.778006, 53.711141]. Point extracted from the original public trip map. A track start is evidence of where recording began, not certification of parking, legal access, road suitability or the complete route.

On the trail

  1. From the historical upper start, walk the old block road for roughly 1 km.

  2. Locate the flagged departure into old-growth forest at the cutblock edge, then follow the bench west for about 500 m.

  3. Climb steeply north through the forest and retain the exact exit into alpine ground for the descent.

Full route notes

Walk the old block road for approximately the first kilometre. At the edge of the cutblock, locate the flagged departure into old-growth forest; this transition is harder to follow than the lower road. Follow the ribbons west along a bench for roughly half a kilometre, then climb steeply north toward the ridge, threading through the last trees before reaching alpine ground. On descent, take care not to drift west off the marked approach into heavy brush and blowdown. The ridge permits longer exploration, so set a turnaround that leaves time to relocate the forest entry. The published 8 km outing assumes the upper trail start, not any extra walk caused by road damage.

The way back

Descend by the same flagged line; drifting west leads into heavy brush and blowdown. The 8 km return assumes the original upper start and excludes any road walking caused by POB washouts.

Terrain: steep ascent · brushy sections · route finding.

Conditions & seasons

Rain can make the POB road greasy, while snow or cloud can hide the ridge-to-forest return. The road-condition report is from 2020 and needs a current check before the trip.

These are dated research notes. Open the trip planner for current available weather and advisory feeds; no alert found does not establish that a trail or road is open.

Camping & overnight plans

The source suggests an overnight on the broad ridge to allow more exploration, but does not identify designated tent pads, toilets, reliable water or a managed campsite. Any stay needs a separate self-sufficient plan and confirmation of applicable camping rules.
