Le Moray Lakes / Donkey Trail
A remote restored horse-trail corridor reaches upper meadows and the Lemoray lakes. Fallen trees, devil’s club and limited communication make this a backcountry route requiring stronger navigation than a typical maintained day hike.

Elevation profile
A full-route elevation profile is not available yet.
A reusable trail line has not yet been verified for this outing. Any location pin shows the published location described above; it does not draw the hike or establish a navigable approach.
Getting there & parking
The published access uses the Heart Lake turnoff from Highway 97 in Pine Pass, followed by a separate local approach to a parking area. The trip page supplies map links for those two driving stages but no complete textual road-turn sequence. Do not assume the Mountain Creek lookout start at campsite 13 is the same trailhead. Verify the correct Donkey Trail parking and current access before leaving the highway.
Map position: 55.50936, -122.52698 · start point of published trip track (parking unverified). Embedded trip-map feature 'PinePassLeMorayLakes': first recorded coordinate [-122.526977, 55.509364]. Point extracted from the original public trip map. A track start is evidence of where recording began, not certification of parking, legal access, road suitability or the complete route.
On the trail
Follow the verified historic corridor through the forest toward the upper meadows and lake basin, retaining a clear descent line through the brush. Trail work was reported to the upper meadows in June 2025, but the account also describes substantial fallen timber and devil’s club and no mobile reception. The lake approach and an additional climb from Lake 2 toward a summit overlooking Heart Lake are separate excursions. The displayed 8.21 km recording has predominantly descending elevation figures and a short recorded duration, so it is not a reliable full-day distance, ascent or time estimate. Do not extend the route toward a summit merely because the exploratory track does so.
Distance and elevation source notes
Embedded 8.21 km track has 18 m ascent and 766 m descent, indicating descent-direction data. It is not valid whole-hike uphill gain.
Conditions & seasons
June 2025 report says clearing reached upper meadows. Remote route with deadfall and devil’s club; no cell service reported.
These are dated research notes. Open the trip planner for current available weather and advisory feeds; no alert found does not establish that a trail or road is open.
Camping & overnight plans
Wilderness tent camping is allowed inside Pine Le Moray Park without developed facilities. Heart Lake is the separate vehicle-access campground and accepts campers first come, first served. Bring drinking water; the park has no drinking-water facilities.
