Cottonwood House Accessible Trails
The Cottonwood Historic Site has a gentle trail network extending around the heritage grounds and beside the Cottonwood River. Quesnel Tourism publishes 3.4 km for the network as a whole, allowing a short riverside walk or a longer exploration. That figure does not identify a single 3.4 km loop or measure cumulative climbing.
Sources reviewed . This is a research date, not a trail inspection.
The locations GPX contains sourced points with their recorded roles. It contains no trail track or connecting route.
The published measurements describe the wider trail network. Your walk’s length and climbing depend on the trails you choose. The notes below describe the available walking options.

A reusable trail line has not yet been verified for this outing. Any location pin shows the published location described above; it does not draw the hike or establish a navigable approach.
Getting there & parking
From Quesnel, follow Highway 26 east toward Wells and Barkerville for approximately 26 km to Cottonwood House Historic Site at 4460 Barkerville Highway. Use the site parking and map kiosks. The operator now publishes its next day-use and walking-trail season as May 29–September 12, 2027, from 10 am to 4 pm; confirm any access outside those dates rather than assuming the gate is open.
Map position: 53.05056, -122.15694 · named destination reference point (not a trailhead). BC Gazetteer: Cottonwood House Historic Park; Provincial Historic Site; 53 03 01 N, 122 09 24 W; WGS84. Published named-feature location for regional orientation and weather. Does not mark trailhead parking or a specific route viewpoint.
Walking options
Start by reading the kiosk map and choose a route along the river or around the perimeter of the historic grounds. The network is described as gentle grade, with several connected trails rather than one prescribed circuit. Keep track of the junction that returns to the parking lot and turn around early if surface conditions do not suit your mobility needs. The reviewed source does not publish individual branch lengths, a turn-by-turn circuit or measured slopes, so those details should come from the current on-site map.
The way back
Choose among Roaming River, Wild Flower, Meadow Meander and Farmer’s Freeway paths. The operator describes about 3 km of network with varying accessibility, while Quesnel Tourism gives 3.4 km; neither is one prescribed loop.
Conditions & seasons
Season-specific access has not been established in this guide. Read the dated notices and original land-manager information before choosing a departure date.
These are dated research notes. Open the trip planner for current available weather and advisory feeds; no alert found does not establish that a trail or road is open.
Camping & overnight plans
On-route camping permission has not been established for this outing. Check the relevant land manager before planning an overnight stay; a mapped lake, cabin or previous tent location does not confirm permission.
