Follow the Grizzly Den trail past 8 Mile Cabin, through spruce-fir forest and wet meadow sections, crossing the small creeks on the established route to Grizzly Den Cabin. The cabin approach is about 6 km one way in the park brochure. Continuing to the peak makes this a longer outing; the same brochure gives approximately 9 km one way and 1,050 m of climbing to the peak, rather than the cabin hike’s 600 m. The brochure does not provide a complete sequence of upper-ridge junctions, so plan the summit extension with an appropriate topographic map rather than treating the cabin directions as a full peak route.

A reusable trail line has not yet been verified for this outing. Any location pin shows the published location described above; it does not draw the hike or establish a navigable approach.
Getting there & parking
Use the Grizzly Den trailhead on Hungary Creek Forest Service Road. From Highway 16 east of Prince George, turn onto Hungary Creek Road and continue to the Grizzly Den parking area before the road continues toward Raven Lake. Published road distances vary slightly; the park brochure gives approximately 13 km from the highway. The road is not plowed in winter, so winter trips can include a substantial additional approach.
Driving access has not been established for this selected route option; check its original sources.
Map position: 53.77911, -121.49621 · destination reference point. Cabin steward publishes this approximate trailhead coordinate. It lies within 4 m of the reviewed mapped parking-approach vertex; not field verified. This point is not a confirmed starting point for the selected route option.

Conditions & seasons
The Hungary Creek road is not winter-plowed. Snow routes, avalanche terrain and the additional road approach need separate winter planning. A dated report records plankway construction in the lower wet meadows continuing in August 2026; it does not establish that all wet sections have been replaced by boardwalk.
Plankway construction continuing
Work on plankways through lower Grizzly Den Meadows began in September 2025 and was still underway in August 2026. Expect construction and incomplete sections unless a newer source confirms completion.

Grizzly Den has a rustic cabin, backcountry camping and a pit toilet. Confirm cabin booking and current tenting instructions before an overnight stay; the summit itself is not identified as a designated campsite.
