Not establishedThe older 13.4 km club listing gives 1,075 m gain. This has not been established for the operator’s currently described approximately 16 km return.

Map and elevation sources
Approximate ground elevation from a 90 m terrain model. Distance follows the mapped itinerary and may differ from published walking distance. This is a terrain-model profile, not a surveyed measurement. Any ascent total is identified separately with its own source or estimation method.
The named Longworth Lookout Trail starts next to a mapped parking node and ends beside the named Longworth Fire Lookout building. The club describes an ascent to the ridge followed by roughly 750 m to the lookout and return on the same route. Both ends are independently identified rather than inferred from elevation.

Getting there & parking
Approach Longworth through the Giscome and Upper Fraser road system, then follow the Sinclair–Longworth roads. Confirm the final junctions using the lookout operator’s access instructions for your booking; the general approach alone does not identify every turn.
Estimated drive from Prince George: 1 hr 40 min. The operator estimates about 1 hour 40 minutes from Prince George. This is a published approximation, not live routing or a road-condition guarantee.
Map position: 53.92310, -121.46160 · operator-published trailhead. PGBRS explicitly publishes this trailhead coordinate beside its current access directions. It is a source-verified trailhead, not field verification; the older recorded GPS start is farther along the approach.
On the trail
Climb the forest route to the alpine ridge around 1,700 m elevation.
Continue approximately 750 m along the ridge to the lookout around 1,780 m, then retrace the approach.
Full route notes
From the operator’s published trailhead, climb the forest trail toward the alpine ridge and rebuilt Longworth Lookout. PGBRS describes approximately 8 km each way, making a retraced return about 16 km. The older club account gives 13.4 km return and 1,075 m gain; the start or measurement difference has not been resolved, so that ascent is not used as the complete total for the operator-described outing. The final ridge is exposed to strong winds and whiteouts; winter travel also crosses avalanche terrain. Carry sufficient water for the cabin approach and upper route.
The way back
PGBRS describes approximately 8 km each way to the cabin, so allow approximately 16 km for a retraced return. The older club listing gives 13.4 km; the difference in measurement or starting point is unresolved.
Terrain: rough route · alpine.

Current cabin operator: approximately 8 km each way. Older club: 13.4 km return and 1,075 m gain. These are not silently combined into one measurement.
Conditions & seasons
The lookout area can have strong winds, whiteouts and avalanche terrain. Winter visits require a separate snow-route assessment, and the cabin should not be relied on as a substitute for the equipment to manage the approach and return.
Lookout and trail work
The cabin was renovated during summer 2024 and trail clearing followed in autumn 2024. The source separately warns of severe weather and avalanche terrain near the lookout; maintenance does not remove those hazards.
PGBRS warns that the final slope crosses avalanche terrain and the cabin is exposed to wind and whiteouts. Its winter estimate is 5–8+ hours to the cabin, depending on conditions; this is not a validated winter track.
These are dated research notes. Open the trip planner for current available weather and advisory feeds; no alert found does not establish that a trail or road is open.

Rebuilt in 2024–25. Reserve before staying. Bring a stove and water: no nearby summer creek, and the rainwater system was removed for winter on 19 October 2026. Winter access crosses serious avalanche terrain with wind and whiteout exposure.
The restored lookout uses a reservation system through the Prince George Backcountry Recreation Society. Book and confirm the current terms before an overnight stay; arriving at the building does not guarantee free space. No summer water source is reported near the cabin.
