Paarens Beach campground
A Stuart Lake campground with a broad beach and boat launch, convenient for exploring the Fort St. James area. Nearby mountain hikes require a separate drive and should not be mistaken for campground trails.
Sources reviewed . This is a research date, not a trail inspection.
The locations GPX contains sourced points with their recorded roles. It contains no trail track or connecting route.
Site map
A reusable trail line has not yet been verified for this outing. Any location pin shows the published location described above; it does not draw the hike or establish a navigable approach.
Getting there & parking
From Prince George, take Highway 16 west to Vanderhoof, then Highway 27 north toward Fort St. James.
The park is on Stuart Lake’s south shore, approximately 11 km from Fort St. James. Use the park map for the final lake-road approach; the reviewed official narrative does not give each turn.
Parking: Day-use beach facilities and the campground are separate parts of the park. Mount Pope is a separate driving destination, not a trail reached directly from these campsites.
Full access notes
From Prince George take Highway 16 west toward Vanderhoof, then Highway 27 north to Fort St. James. Follow the signed Paarens Beach approach to the south shore of Stuart Lake, about 11 km from the community. The official overview does not provide every local road turn, so use its current entrance map for the final approach. Check campground availability and operating dates before departure.
Map position: 54.41848, -124.38005 · official park map reference; campground entrance unverified. BC Parks detailed-map link explicitly publishes center=-124.380053,54.418483. Marker locates the associated park as chosen by BC Parks, not an individual campsite or verified campground entrance. Do not calculate trailhead driving distance from this point.
At the campsite
Use the campground and beach paths for a short lakeside visit, staying within signed public areas. Mount Pope/Nak’al is a separate hiking destination northwest of Fort St. James, with its own trailhead, sustained climb and day-use-only rules; its route distance is not a path starting at Paarens Beach. Other regional networks, including Tulle Lake, also need separate access planning. Lake activities require their own weather and water assessment. Before setting up, confirm campsite allocation, service notices and pet boundaries rather than assuming beach access or a campsite guarantees permission everywhere along the shore.
Conditions & seasons
Season-specific access has not been established in this guide. Read the dated notices and original land-manager information before choosing a departure date.
These are dated research notes. Open the trip planner for current available weather and advisory feeds; no alert found does not establish that a trail or road is open.
