A strenuous summit route beyond the W.A.C. Bennett Dam country. The long industrial-road approach and old maintenance report require current access checks before treating it as a straightforward day hike.

Battleship Mountain via Little Carbon Lake on AllTrails
A roughly 11.1 km return through Little Carbon Lake toward Battleship Mountain. This differs from the primary guide’s 12.5 km outing; confirm the approach and summit turnaround.

Getting there & parking
Cross W.A.C. Bennett Dam from Hudson’s Hope if current access allows, then follow Utah Road 6.5 km and Table Road 2 km to join Johnson Creek FSR at its 45.5 km reference. Continue toward the approximately 64 km marker, just beyond Carbon Lake Recreation Site, where the club places the trailhead. These directions are from a summer 2017 review. Check dam access, industrial road conditions and the final trailhead location before committing to the drive.

On the trail
The public club description establishes a steep summit outing of approximately 12.5 km return, 925 m of climbing and about seven hours. It reports a marked route in good condition in summer 2017, but does not provide an intermediate junction sequence or a current maintenance inspection. Use the source’s route map and verified present-day navigation information to follow the ascent and return on the same line. Do not interpret the old maintenance statement as proof that every marker, crossing or forest section is still intact. The nearby Carbon Lake Recreation Site is separate from camping on the mountain.
The way back
The source’s 12.5 km return, 925 m gain and seven-hour estimate apply to the summit and retraced descent. The source does not supply enough intermediate turns to replace a route map.
Conditions & seasons
Season-specific access has not been established in this guide. Read the dated notices and original land-manager information before choosing a departure date.
These are dated research notes. Open the trip planner for current available weather and advisory feeds; no alert found does not establish that a trail or road is open.
On-route camping permission has not been established for this outing. Check the relevant land manager before planning an overnight stay; a mapped lake, cabin or previous tent location does not confirm permission.
