Twin Sisters alpine lake

A long approach through forest and past a fire-lookout site reaches an alpine lake below the Twin Sisters. The lake is the full-day hiking objective here; reaching a summit adds several more hours and different terrain.

A reusable trail line has not yet been verified for this outing. Any location pin shows the published location described above; it does not draw the hike or establish a navigable approach.

Getting there & parking

  1. Cross W.A.C. Bennett Dam from Hudson’s Hope if the road is open to public traffic.

  2. Follow Utah Road for 6.5 km, then Table Road for 2 km to Johnson Creek FSR at its 45.5 km road reference.

  3. Continue to approximately Johnson Creek FSR km 82 and locate the marked trail entrance on the left. These directions come from a 2017 map.

Parking: The 2017 map places the trail entrance on the left near Johnson Creek FSR km 82. It does not establish a surveyed parking area.

Full access notes

The published 2017 approach crosses W.A.C. Bennett Dam from Hudson’s Hope, then follows Utah Road for 6.5 km and Table Road for 2 km to join Johnson Creek Forest Service Road at its 45.5 km reference. Continue on Johnson Creek FSR to approximately the 82 km marker; the map places the trailhead on the left, with orange flagging described at the entrance. The source recommends 4WD for the rough gravel road. These are dated road instructions, so confirm current dam access, road passability and the trailhead before departure. The approximate map pin is a planning reference rather than a surveyed parking waypoint.

Map position: 55.84900, -122.62500 · approximate published-map trailhead reference; not a navigation waypoint. The Chetwynd Outdoors 2017 route map labels a trailhead beside Johnson Creek FSR. Reading its NAD83 UTM Zone 10 grid gives approximately 523500E, 6189300N; an independently reviewed inverse-UTM conversion gives 55.848662, -122.624667, rounded here to 55.849, -122.625. The map-reading uncertainty is approximately 150 m and road access has not been field checked. This point is a planning reference, not a precise navigation waypoint. No trail line is copied.

On the trail

The described route climbs through forest from the road to a fire road, follows that briefly, then re-enters the trees and passes a small pond on the way to the lookout. The club estimates two to three hours to that point. Beyond it, follow the ridge toward the alpine lake, allowing another two to three hours outward. The published 15.7 km return and 964 m gain refer to the lake outing. A summit attempt is described as requiring another three to four hours and is not covered by those figures. Keep track of the forest re-entry and road junctions for the return; this is a route-finding trip rather than a developed signed trail.

The way back

The published lake outing is 15.7 km return. Retrace the same route from the alpine lake; the higher summit extension is a separate undertaking.

Terrain: alpine.
