Heritage River Trail System
A mostly level city network links river views, wetlands and major parks along the Fraser and Nechako. Some Nechako-side sections are no longer available, so it must be planned as currently open segments rather than an assumed continuous river walk.
Sources reviewed . This is a research date, not a trail inspection.
The published measurements describe the wider trail network. Your walk’s length and climbing depend on the trails you choose. The notes below describe the available walking options.

Elevation profile
A full-route elevation profile is not available yet. The mapped paths have not been verified as one continuous outing.
Choose a specific route where available. Individual map fragments are not shown as separate hike stages.

Getting there & parking
Choose an established park entrance: Cottonwood Island, Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park, Hudson’s Bay Wetland or Carrie Jane Gray Park. Cottonwood’s main access is from River Road; the memorial park is reached from the east end of 17th Avenue. Begin from the park that fits your intended section, and check local signs before trying to link the complete network.
Map position: 53.92630, -122.75437 · park reference point derived inside official boundary. Official City ParkName=Heritage River Trail System; OBJECTID=1440; active park polygon. Marker computed inside its largest polygon, checked against exterior and holes. Park location marker for orientation; not a source-published parking point or trailhead. Neighbourhood park existence does not establish a named hiking route.
Walking options
Follow the public riverside and park paths between your selected landmarks. The City lists 9.2 km of trails with a mixture of pavement and dirt and little overall elevation change; it does not establish that every historical connection remains open. In particular, unavailable sections along the Nechako must not be bypassed across private property. Turn around or use an explicitly signed public connection at a closure. Benches, interpretation and seasonal washrooms are available at major parks. The trail system is on-leash, while Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park itself is pet-free, so a dog-friendly route must respect that boundary.
Terrain: paved.

Conditions & seasons
Municipal page says some Nechako River sections are no longer available. This is an access restriction, not simply seasonal; do not render an uninterrupted navigable loop.
These are dated research notes. Open the trip planner for current available weather and advisory feeds; no alert found does not establish that a trail or road is open.
Camping & overnight plans
On-route camping permission has not been established for this outing. Check the relevant land manager before planning an overnight stay; a mapped lake, cabin or previous tent location does not confirm permission.
