Leave Highway 29 about 8.8 km north of Tumbler Ridge for Wolverine FSR. At its kilometre 12.2, turn right onto Perry Creek Road.
On Perry Creek Road, take the right fork at kilometre 10.2, left at kilometre 12 and right at kilometre 13.7. Continue to the road-end clearing.
Parking: Use the gas-well clearing at the end of the permitted approach; keep operational access clear.
Full access notes
Drive north from Tumbler Ridge on Highway 29 for approximately 8.8 km and turn onto Wolverine Forest Service Road. At road kilometre 12.2, turn right onto Perry Creek Road and follow it past the mine. Take the right branch at kilometre 10.2, left at kilometre 12 and right again at kilometre 13.7, continuing to the large gas-well clearing at the end. This is an industrial-road approach with mine and possible logging traffic; follow current signs, radio requirements and any access restrictions around the well.

On the trail
Climb the exploration-road switchbacks to the saddle north of the well.
Choose one objective: the short southwest ridge, the east ridge toward the actual summit, or the north ridge with the Playpen and Neck features.
Full route notes
From the gas-well clearing, climb the old exploration road by its switchbacks to the saddle north of the well. Here the outing divides into three distinct alpine choices. The short southwest ridge gives views toward the reclaimed mine; the actual Mount Spieker summit lies east along roughly 4 km of alpine ridge; the northern branch visits tarns, unusual cracked-rock terrain and the narrowing Neck above cliffs. Choose one objective and preserve enough visibility to relocate the saddle on return. Beyond the road, travel follows open ground and animal paths rather than a continuous engineered trail. Keep away from deep fissures and cliff edges, particularly where snow conceals openings.
The way back
Return to the saddle and descend the same road. The summit is about 4 km along the east ridge from the saddle, so the source’s 6 km headline cannot represent every alpine choice.
Conditions & seasons
July and August bring alpine wildflowers, but weather and snow conditions determine the practical route. Fog can erase the return line across the open saddle and ridges; this is not a good place to rely only on seeing the vehicle below.
These are dated research notes. Open the trip planner for current available weather and advisory feeds; no alert found does not establish that a trail or road is open.
On-route camping permission has not been established for this outing. Check the relevant land manager before planning an overnight stay; a mapped lake, cabin or previous tent location does not confirm permission.
