Getting there & parking

From Chetwynd drive toward Prince George on Highway 97 for approximately 104 km. Turn left onto the gravel road about 200 m north of Azouzetta Lake Lodge, then follow it approximately 700 m to a pullout on the left near the railway. The older guide describes the walking start across the road and railway corridor; verify that the current crossing is lawful and usable, and never use the railway as a walking route. Do not navigate to the separate Mount Murray highway trailhead.

Map position: 55.40196, -122.62926 · start point of published trip track (parking unverified). Embedded trip-map feature 'MurrayRange': first recorded coordinate [-122.629256, 55.401955]. Point extracted from the original public trip map. A track start is evidence of where recording began, not certification of parking, legal access, road suitability or the complete route.

On the trail

Locate the route on the crest of the avalanche berm and follow it uphill toward the gully. The gully ascent is exceptionally steep and leads toward the summit cairn and views of lakes behind the ridge. This is not a constructed mountain path with regular wayfinding. Summer reports from July 2025 and August 2026 describe dense brush on the lower berm and hard, slippery snow remaining in the shaded gully. Do not treat a reported bypass or glissade as a generally safe instruction: inspect the terrain and be prepared to turn around. The basic club outing is 4.8 km return, while longer recorded ridge explorations differ. Reverse the same line with enough time for a careful descent.

The way back

Retrace the very steep berm-and-gully approach from the cairn. The 4.8 km return figure covers the basic outing, excluding further ridge exploration.

Terrain: gravel · alpine.

Conditions & seasons

The route follows avalanche terrain. Summer accounts still report hard snow in the shaded gully; this description does not establish a winter route or avalanche-safe access.

Winter route

The described summer line follows an avalanche berm and gully. It is not verified as an appropriate winter hiking or snowshoe route.

Camping & overnight plans

On-route camping permission has not been established for this outing. Check the relevant land manager before planning an overnight stay; a mapped lake, cabin or previous tent location does not confirm permission.
