Fang approach closed after rockslide

BC Parks closed the Fang Trail following rockfall and debris. The notice began June 19, 2026 and was updated June 22; it gives no reopening date. The restriction concerns this approach, not every route through Evanoff Park.

Elevation profile

A full-route elevation profile is not available yet.

A reusable trail line has not yet been verified for this outing. Any location pin shows the published location described above; it does not draw the hike or establish a navigable approach.

Getting there & parking

The traverse uses the separate Torpy and Fang trailheads reached from the Pass Lake/Upper Torpy road system. Arrange transport between them before starting. The Fang end is currently affected by the official rockslide closure, so the historical two-trailhead itinerary is not a currently verified open route.

Map position: 54.06298, -121.37453 · start point of published trip track (parking unverified). Embedded trip-map feature 'TorpyFangCrossoverJuly2025': first recorded coordinate [-121.374534, 54.062983]. Point extracted from the original public trip map. A track start is evidence of where recording began, not certification of parking, legal access, road suitability or the complete route.

On the trail

The historical crossover climbs from one basin into alpine terrain, links the Torpy and Fang lake areas across the high ground, then descends to the opposite trailhead. A July 2025 trip account describes about 12 km point to point; that is not a return distance and excludes the road shuttle. The alpine connection needs independent navigation. A July 1, 2026 visitor report describes flowing water on Torpy, saturated crossover ground and remaining snow patches, but it does not override the official Fang rockslide closure. Do not plan the descent through the closed side unless BC Parks has explicitly reopened it.

Conditions & seasons

The crossover has alpine snow, meltwater and avalanche exposure. The current Fang closure is separate from seasonal snow conditions and must be checked before any through-trip.

Grizzly activity in Evanoff Park

A park notice updated April 28, 2026 identifies regular grizzly activity, including family groups. BC Parks advises travelling together, making noise and carrying bear spray. This notice is not a trail closure.
