Outing: loop outing from Published roadside trail access; 1.26 km along the mapped itinerary

Copernicus DEM 2021 GLO-90 via Open-Meteo (90 m resolution). v7-smoothed-ascent-1: interpolate retained terrain samples at 100 m spacing; apply one triangular 1:2:1 smoothing pass over ±100 m; preserve start, finish and documented turnaround heights; sum uphill excursions with a 5 m reversal threshold; round to nearest 10 m.

Approximate terrain-model ascent, not a field or GPS measurement. Coarse cells and smoothing can miss small climbs, switchbacks, structures and sharp terrain. Processing sensitivity is not a statistical confidence interval.

Map and elevation sources

Approximate ground elevation from a 90 m terrain model. Distance follows the mapped itinerary and may differ from published walking distance. This is a terrain-model profile, not a surveyed measurement. Any ascent total is identified separately with its own source or estimation method.

The named interpretive loop is closed in the OSM source. Its approach meets the loop at the exact same source coordinate. Walking the approach, closed loop and reversed approach produces a continuous 1.263 km outing, consistent with the tourism guide’s approximately 1.2 km complete circuit. The approach begins within 87 m of the historical published parking point; no parking-to-trail connector is invented.

Getting there & parking

  1. Drive west from McBride on Highway 16 and watch for the marked trail pullout before the West Twin river crossing.

Parking: Look for the small gravel pullout on Highway 16 about 29 km west of McBride, approximately 800 m before West Twin Bridge when driving west from town.

Full access notes

From McBride, drive west on Highway 16 for approximately 29 km. Look for the small gravel trail parking area on the south side of the highway, roughly 800 m before the West Twin bridge when travelling from McBride. The lot is near a curve and can be easy to miss; identify the signed trail entrance before turning. The path enters the forest directly from this parking area.

Historical Highway 16 pullout location; current access not confirmed. The tourism-hosted guide identifies itself as a research copy and says access, trails and amenities have not been updated. Coordinate provenance is verified; current access is not.

On the trail

  1. Enter the forest beside the trail sign and follow the interpretive old-growth loop back to the roadside start.

Full route notes

Follow the marked interpretive loop through the cedar-hemlock stand and return to the same roadside trailhead. Information signs explain the old-growth forest along the way. The published outing is about 1.2 km for the complete loop, so this record describes the short forest visit rather than any longer route into West Twin Park. Allow time to read the signs and look at the large trees; the source does not establish a wheelchair-standard surface or a separate measured elevation gain.

The way back

The tourism guide describes a 1.2 km loop. The forest circuit returns to its start rather than requiring a second trailhead.
