Kinuseo platform closed for 2026
BC Parks confirms that structural problems keep the falls viewing platform closed for the 2026 season; the notice was updated February 3, 2026. The route to upper viewpoints remains open in that notice, but is challenging and has steep drop-offs. This does not close the whole falls area.

Mapped trail network. The mapped upper and lower viewing paths do not override the 2026 viewing-platform closure. Use the current BC Parks notice before choosing a viewpoint. Line source (opens original source).
From Tumbler Ridge, follow Highway 52 south for about 14 km and turn right onto Kinuseo Falls Road. Continue roughly 51 km on the signed gravel approach, allowing extra time for washboard, potholes and industrial traffic. Inside Monkman Park, take the signed one-kilometre spur to the falls parking, where picnic tables and outhouses are described. Check current forestry-road conditions and any radio requirements before leaving town.

On the trail
Use the signed viewpoint trails from the falls parking. The ordinary accessible platform at the lip of the falls is closed for the 2026 season under the park advisory; do not rely on older descriptions of a 150 m wheelchair-accessible visit. The upper viewpoint is approximately 250 m from the start and remains a separate, more demanding walking option when authorized. Longer branches lead toward Leake Viewpoint, around 1.5 km away, and downstream/riverside viewpoints around 2 km each way. Those longer paths include very steep sections and should not inherit the short platform route’s accessibility rating. Stay behind barriers and use only open signed routes.
The way back
The selected short outing retraces the roughly 250 m approach to the upper viewpoint. The closed lip platform and longer downstream routes are separate options.
Terrain: gravel.

Conditions & seasons
Mountain weather is changeable even in summer, with cool rain and wind common. BC Parks says the access road is maintained only to kilometre 21 in winter, so the summer road-end start is not a normal winter driving destination. Water must be treated, and overnight parties need a stove and a complete backcountry plan.
These are dated research notes. Open the trip planner for current available weather and advisory feeds; no alert found does not establish that a trail or road is open.
Kinuseo Falls campground is the nearby established vehicle-accessible campground and the start of the long Monkman backcountry trail. The falls parking and viewpoint paths are day-use areas, not substitute campsites.
